PRIMER TRAILER DE "LA ODISEA" DE CHRISTOPHER NOLAL (The Odyssey)

La Odisea es seguramente la película más esperada del año 2026. Christopher Nolan lleva a la gran pantalla una de las obras más grandiosas de la literatura universal.

Ya se ha estrenado el tráiler de la película que se estrenará el 17 de julio de 2026 en España con un reparto de lujo: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya y Robert Patinson

JAY KELLY

Noah Baumbach es un artista muy versátil, como ya ha demostrado en sus facetas de director, productor, guionista y actor. Incluso se ha aventurado a ejercer como músico a través de algunas composiciones de bandas sonoras. A mi juicio, el largometraje “Historia de un matrimonio”, con Adam Driver y Scarlett Johansson al frente del reparto, constituye hasta la fecha su mejor obra como cineasta. De hecho, no sólo proporcionó al propio Baumbach dos de sus cuatro nominaciones al Oscar, sino que se calificó como una cinta emotiva, dramática, realista y excelentemente interpretada sobre el ocaso de una pareja, inspirada en la propia historia del realizador. Ahora presenta “Jay Kelly”, estrenada en la plataforma Netflix y que por el momento ha logrado dos candidaturas a los Globos de Oro (mejor actor principal y de reparto), y la mención de la National Board of Review como una de las diez mejores películas del año.

Se basa en la crisis personal de una estrella de cine, atrapada entre la gloria de su profesión y los lastres generados por el tiempo invertido en conseguir ese estatus de celebridad, a costa de su familia y de sí mismo. Resulta recurrente la idea de que, llegado a determinado momento de la vida, las personas entran en crisis. Algunas escenas me recordaban a la excelente “Lost in Traslation”, cuando el personaje interpretado por la ya citada Scarlett Johansson diagnosticaba al de Bill Murray el declive de los cincuenta, aunque inevitablemente termino rememorando otra secuencia de la también excepcional “El hijo de la novia”, en la que el inversor que pretendía adquirir el negocio del protagonista le trataba de convencer de la venta alegando que el país se hallaba en crisis. Y la contestación de Ricardo Darín no podía ser más acertada, al responderle que el país siempre estaba en crisis, y no vinculada precisamente a aquella concreta etapa.

El film, ejemplo de notables actuaciones, describe las luces, sombras, sensaciones y contradicciones de un hombre que, teniéndolo todo en apariencia, descubre de pronto sus vacíos y carencias vitales. La burbuja estelar en la que ha vivido contrasta con la existencia corriente y vulgar de la mayoría de los seres humanos, y gran parte del metraje se dedica a reflejar su sorpresa y admiración al contemplar el comportamiento natural y ordinario de la gente ante situaciones cotidianas. Un tramo de la acción se desarrolla en un tren de pasajeros, tras la decisión del famoso de viajar por Italia, sintiéndose fascinado por un tipo de relaciones y actitudes jamás vistas en sus mansiones y aviones privados.

Entiendo la propuesta y el mensaje de Noah Baumbach, así como su capacidad para la dirección de actores y su naturalidad en la forma de narrar la historia, ambas muy meritorias y destacadas. Sin embargo, considero que abusa de ciertos recursos y peca de reiteración innecesaria en el constante asombro del individuo ante las experiencias que se ha perdido. En ese sentido, las casi dos horas y media de duración se me tornan excesivas.

Sea como fuere, existen instantes relevantes donde el drama y la comedia se combinan de manera acertada. El cúmulo de nostalgias y remordimientos se plasman de modo amable e incluso agradable, pese a dejar patente un regusto amargo. Uno de los puntos más redondos se produce cuando el renombrado actor acude a un homenaje a toda su carrera, exhibiéndose escenas de sus trabajos (extractos reales de la filmografía de George Clooney). Intérprete y personaje se entremezclan mágicamente y el espectador percibe una indudable complicidad entre los dos.  

Clooney, ganador de un Oscar como productor por “Argo” y de otro como actor por “Syriana”, cuenta en su haber con un considerable número de títulos sobresalientes, entre ellos “Los idus de marzo”, “Up in the Air” o “Buenas noches y buena suerte”. Le acompaña Adam Sandler a quien, pese a no agradarme, reconozco aquí una digna intervención. Junto a ellos encontramos a Emily Mortimer, Billy Crudup o Laura Dern.

Nominado en una ocasión al Oscar por su faceta de productor de la película “Algunos hombres buenos”, su filmografía como director tenía títulos imprescindibles de la cinematografía moderna como “Cuenta conmigo”, “La princesa prometida”, “Cuando Harry encontró a Sally”, “Misery” o la propia “Algunos hombres buenos”.  

Como actor le pudimos ver en “El lobo de Wall Street”, “Primary Colors”, “Algo para recordar” o “Postales desde el filo”.

Esta triste noticia a conmocionado al todo Hollywood y, en general, al mundo del Séptimo Arte. Descanse en paz. 

VALOR SENTIMENTAL (Sentimental Value)

Joachim Trier, pese a haber nacido en Dinamarca, es el cineasta noruego más famoso en estos momentos. En 2022 fue nominado al Oscar por su guion de “La peor persona del mundo”, film que compitió igualmente en la categoría de mejor película internacional (que finalmente recayó en la japonesa “Drive My Car”). No obstante, “La peor persona del mundo” ganó el Premio Goya a la mejor película europea, su actriz protagonista recibió asimismo un galardón aquel año en Cannes y, al margen de lo anterior, obtuvo un notable rendimiento en taquilla para lo que es habitual en el modesto cine del Norte de Europa. Ahora estrena “Valor sentimental”, presente en cuantas ceremonias cinematográficas se celebren a partir de ahora. Actualmente, y quedando aún gran parte de reconocimientos por anunciar, Trier ya ha sido reconocido también en el último Festival de Cannes, su cinta ha resultado distinguida con nueve nominaciones a los Premios del Cine Europeo y ocho a los Globos de Oro, además de resultar mencionada por la National Board of Review como una de los cinco mejores filmes extranjeros del año. Nos hallamos, pues, ante un trabajo de visión imprescindible.

“Valor sentimental” se alza como digna sucesora de “La peor persona del mundo” y continúa su estilo narrativo y visual. Cabe presumir que los mismos espectadores que disfrutaron de la primera repitan experiencia con la segunda. En este nuevo proyecto predomina cierta inclinación al estilo de cine de Ingmar Bergman, con todo lo que ello supone. Sea como fuere, se trata de un drama honesto que rezuma originalidad y autenticidad. Quizás algunos tramos del metraje se hagan más pesados, pero la coherencia del conjunto y su calidad interpretativa y cinematográfica no dejan lugar a dudas. Parafraseando el propio título, su valor cinematográfico resulta incuestionable.

Tras la muerte de su madre, dos hijas se reencuentran con su distanciado padre, un antiguo y renombrado director de cine que ofrece a una de ellas, actriz de teatro, un personaje en su próxima película. Ella lo rechaza y más tarde se entera de que le ha dado el papel a una joven y entusiasta estrella de Hollywood. De repente, las dos hermanas se ven inmersas en una complicada relación, tanto con su progenitor como con la actriz estadounidense, sorprendida e involucrada en medio de esta compleja dinámica familiar.

El realizador acredita una sobrada habilidad para describir los sentimientos de las personas y sus complejidades. Y lo hace de una forma natural, nada artificial, que invita al espectador a adentrarse en las vidas ajenas. Más allá de lo que se pueda reflexionar sobre la familia, sitúa al público frente a un drama intenso y poderoso con alguna pincelada cómica, y ante una puesta en escena sobria y acertada. A poco que logre elevar ligeramente su listón en cuanto al ritmo narrativo, se convertirá en uno de los cineastas más destacados de su tiempo, habida cuenta de que dirige, escribe y coproduce.

Uno de los aspectos más destacados de “Valor sentimental” es el alto nivel interpretativo de su equipo artístico, empezando por la excelente actriz Renate Reinsve, habitual en la filmografía de Trier y que ya encabezó el reparto de la citada “La peor persona del mundo”. Construye su personaje de manera sólida y creíble, y aporta un plus al resultado final. El veterano actor sueco Stellan Skarsgård, visto en superproducciones de Hollywood y en filmes europeos de estilo independiente, ha actuado en las dos entregas de “Dune”, de Denis Villeneuve, en varias muestras de la factoría Marvel, como “Los Vengadores” o “Thor”, y en “El indomable Will Hunting”. Cabe indicar que su trayectoria se asocia a Lars von Trier (“Rompiendo las olas”, “Melancolía”, “Dogville”). La más desconocida del elenco es Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, sin apenas estrenos en España, todo lo contrario de Elle Fanning quien, pese a su juventud y gracias a su enorme potencial, posee un currículum memorable, que incluye “Babel”, “El curioso caso de Benjamin Button”, “Super 8” y “A Complete Unknown”, entre otras, demostrando un sobresaliente bagaje profesional.
